Lunar: The Silver Star
Lunar: The Silver Star - Game Arts/Studio Alex/Working Designs - Released 12/--/93
Lunar: The Silver Star almost sold 1/1 with the Sega CD, demonstrating the power of digital audio, spoken voice, and anime movies, to say nothing of story and music that truely stands out from the crowd. The story tells of a world that shines in the light the Blue Star, where a boy named Alex takes his dreams of adventure to the road with only his friends Luna, Ramus and Nall. But Alex's adventure will become a quest of a thousand lifetimes when the evil Magic Emperor begins to execute his plans. The game sports an acclaimed translation, gameplay improvments and a surprisingly good voice cast by Working Designs.

Lunar: Eternal Blue - Game Arts/Studio Alex/Working Designs - Released 9/--/95
Lunar began the Sega CD with the The Silver Star and ended it with the sequel - Lunar: Eternal Blue. Lunar 2 centers around a boy named Hiro who is facinated by the days when the Goddess Althena last walked the Earth, and Lucia, a mysterious girl from the Blue Star. Lucia's arrival on Lunar heralds that a dark god who made the creation of Lunar neccesary is about to return to destroy what Althena has wrought. L:EB continues the tradition of excellent story and music complemented by 50 minutes of animation and over an hour of spoken dialogue. Working Designs presents another skilled translation, and again, the voice acting is above average.

The remixed sequel to Lunar: Silver Star Story retells the tale of Lucia's crash course in the nature of humanity alongside the valiant Hiro in 32 bits of redrawn graphics and full screen cinemas. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue closely resembles it's 32-bit counterpart in the visual department, but with more attention to detail. Unfortunately, the developers seem to have broken the bank with the Silver Star Story cinema sequences and had to cut back on Eternal Blue's movies. Plot and music-wise this game subsribes to an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" policy and overall is not as drastic of an overhaul as Silver Star Story. Working Designs rewrote very significant portions of their original script and made prudent revisions, and of course offer astonishing pack-ins. This time its a 5 CD set - 3 game CDs, one arranged soundtrack and the Making of, the hardback manual/artbook, a paper map, and a replica of Lucia's pendant.
