The beginning of a legend, thanks to it's exceptional staff, including character designer Kubooka Toshiyuki and senario writer Shigema Kei. A pioneer in the realms of cd-quality sound and cut-scene animation, this game captured attention throughout the gaming world. In its day it was the software short Mega CD's saving grace. In this the first age of Lunar, the Blue Star shed it's light on Alex with his adventurous dreams, and his enchanting friend Luna on thier quest for fortune and Dragonmasterhood. All is not well in Lunar however, as the Magic Emperor sets sinister plans into action. The highlights of this traditional RPG are its story and music, and it sports vast dungeons and a noteworthy strategy oriented battle engine.

Lunar began the Mega CD with the The Silver Star and ended it with the sequel-- Lunar: Eternal Blue. Lunar 2 tells the story of Hiro, a boy with a fervor for the days when the Goddess Althena last walked the Earth, and Lucia, a mysterious girl from the Blue Star. Lucia's arrival on Lunar heralds that a dark shadow is about to fall over the world once more. L:EB brings players back to a Lunar that is bigger, brighter, and much grander than before. It continues the tradition of excellent story and music, and the animated scenes are better than a lot of TV animation, particularly the opening movie. Its limited edition package includes an 8cm drama/vocal CD of Lucia and Lemina.

A side story to the Mega CD Lunar games, released on Sega's handheld Game Gear system. The look and feel of the game is very similar, but the characters and story are original. Elly and Lena, childhood friends from Burg, are accepted into the Magic School located on the floating Ien Island. Thier adventures unfold as the island wanders across the sea. The game's mechanics differ from it's predecessors mainly because it has a less involving battle system. Rather than the semi-strategic engine, Sanposuru uses a more traditional RPG system that doesn't bring in concerns of positioning on the battlefield. It's an extra light and humorous return to the magical world of Lunar to tide the public over until the release of Silver Star Story.

Lunar: Silver Star Story is a new vision of the original title, Lunar: The Silver Star, reworked with a big budget and the power of Sega's 32-bit Saturn console. The graphics, music and plot have been completely redrawn, and though the same idea and basic flow drives them, everything in the game is full of new surprises, big and small, for the L:TSS veteran. For example, two new major characters have been added. The game mechanics have been updated, in particular battles are limited to dungeons and enemies can be seen on the fields. The voice cast, over three times as large as L:TSS's, is all new, and no expense was spared on the animation scenes, which are OVA quality and employ a variety of computer coloring and modeling techniques, though they are somewhat obscured by the Saturn's grainy Cinepak encoding.
