星の砂漠は希有な漫画です。
中を開いてみてください。中は黒っぽく、密度が高く、ネームがなくて絵だけのコマが多いのです。コマの一つ一つは、ほんの小さなコマも、ただ物語を流すためだけにあるのではなく、まるで散文詩のように、非常に印象的にいろいろな意味を持っています。
その素晴らしい画力で描かれたマナは、語らずとも、一コマ一コマいろいろなことを私たちに伝えてくれます。
私も好きな漫画をたくさん持っていますが、こんな作品はあまりありません。
これと同じくらいに素晴らしいコミックスといえば……そうですね、「若草一家でいこう」という作品くらいしか思いつくことができません。(別に宣伝しているわけではありません。ふふ)

	Hoshi no Sabaku is an unusual manga.
	Open it up and take a look. There are many panels with very dark, dense images that lack any explanation. Each individual panel, even the small ones, are not present only to progress the story, but posess an unusually impressive variety of meanings - like prose poetry.
	Mana, as drawn with this amazing expressiveness, tells us many things in each panel, even without speaking.
	I too have many comics I like, but there are few works like this one.
	To name manga that are similarly excellent... well, none come to mind besides a work called "Wakakusa Ikka de Ikou" (Let's Go with the Wakakusas). (Not that I'm promoting it or anything.... haha.) {Wakakusa Ikka de Ikou is another manga that Yuuya Aoi invisioned, drawn by Funato Akari.}

この漫画を 描くまえに船戸先生は、私の住む東北の田舎町にまで取材に来てくれました。この漫画に出てくる硝子屋私の好きなお店がモデルになっていますが、今、もうこのお店はありません。そんなふうに初めてこの漫画を読んだ頃とは少しずついろいろなことが変わっています。
マナの三つ折りソックスは、当時でも珍しかったと思いますが、あの頃全盛のルースソックスはもうあまり見かけなくなりました。マナの着ているセーラー服は何故かネームプレートを含めて私の中学の制服ととてもよく似ていますが、もう母校の制服は変わってしまいました。でも、きっとブレザーを着たマナがどこかにいるのだろうと私は思います。


 	Before drawing this manga, Funato-sensei came to the Tohoku country town where I live to collect information. The glass shop that appears in the manga is modeled on a shop I am fond of, but now it is gone. Many things have begun to change a bit in this sort of way since I first read this manga.
	I think Mana's tri-fold socks were unusual even at the time, but loose socks, which were at the hieght of their popularity a the time, are seldom seen anymore. With the nameplate on, the sailor suit that Mana wears closely resembles my junior high uniform, but the uniform of my old school has changed now. Nonetheless, I think that surely,  Mana is out there somewhere wearing a blazer.

時は流れましたが、相変わらず、この漫画は私にとって大切な宝物です。皆さんにとってもそうであることを祈っています。
